No matter if they are on the abdomen, breasts, arms, thighs, hips, or buttocks those pesky little scars are a source of distress for their owners. Stretch marks can be caused by rapid growth, hormonal changes, muscle building, and weight gain. The question I hear over and over again is “Can you make these disappear?” The honest to God truth is “No”. However, I can make those reddish, purple, and white lines appear much, much better. I use a multi-laser approach. To start, I attempt to improve the reddish or purple discoloration by going over all areas with a Sciton 1064 nm laser. Sciton has just announced that their laser, JOULE ClearSense, has been approved by the FDA for onychomycosis, more commonly known as toe nail fungus.  JOULE ClearSense is a noninvasive and nontoxic laser treatment designed to kill toe nail fungus with a 79% success rate, compared to an 8-10% success rate with topical therapies and a 35- 50% success rate with oral remedies.  Patients can be treated on all of their toes in as quickly as 15-20 minutes with no aftercare or maintenance.  Although the FDA has only approved the JOULE ClearSense to treat toe nail fungus, the laser machine is also used to treat wrinkles, warts, rosacea, and hypertrophic and keloid scars. Question: I'm a 43-year-old man. I have some very unsightly varicose veins on the front of my shins. I know you handle spider veins and I’m curious if you can handle these types of veins or is there another type of procedure that I need? Answer: Patients with extremely large veins need to come in for evaluation and sometimes they have problems with the superficial saphenous system. Veins may be treated with endovascular surgery or even venous stripping, but patients need to undergo venous mapping with ultrasound to assess this.

Question: I'm a 24-year-old woman with very large eyebrows. I do not look forward to waxing and plucking them for the next 80 years. I think laser hair removal would be a good investment. Will it redden my face and, if so, for how long? Do you give any local anesthesia? Answer: We use local anesthesia and topical anesthesia, and hair removal is an excellent choice for treating large eyebrows.
