Laser Stretch Mark Removal

All too often patients approach us with concerns about their stretch marks. They appear in both men and women on the abdomen, breast, arms, hips thighs and buttocks.  Stretch marks effect as many as 90% of women and are not easy to get rid of. The causes of stretch marks are usually due to the following:

• Rapid weight loss
• Rapid weight gain
• Pregnancy
• Growth spurts
• Hormonal changes
• Weight Lifting

So many of our patients were looking for a solution to make stretch marks disappear but many of the previous laser treatments were ineffective. Physician Assistant, Krystie Lennox, developed a protocol that can make the reddish, purple and white lines much, much better.

Using a multi-laser approach, the reddish or purple discoloration is improved by going over the treatment areas with the Sciton 1064 laser.  The Sciton laser is designed to heat up the blood vessels, causing them to break down and shrink, therefore, reducing the unsightly appearance. Immediately following the Sciton 1064 laser, an ablative fractional resurfacing laser is used. Stretch marks are caused by the tearing of the dermis of the skin, the ablative fractional resurfacing laser helps to rebuild collagen and epithelium.

Things to Know About Laser Stretch Mark Treatment:

• A minimum of six treatments are required
• Treatments are spaced one month apart
• Treatment areas will be red and slightly tender a few days after treatment
• The treatment area must remain out of direct sunlight one week before and after each session

Each of our patients have “before” photos taken prior to the initial treatment. Post treatment photos are taken 8 weeks after the final treatment. This schedule of photos helps both the physician assistant and the patient properly evaluate the treatment results.
