What does radiofrequency technology mean exactly?

Question:
I've read an article about s treatment called Aluma that uses radiofrequency technology. What does this mean exactly? How is this different from lasers?
Answer:
In our practice, we have many different radiofrequency devices which use a different type of energy source. This penetrates deeper than some of the laser treatments and, in my estimation, it is better for skin tightening. Read more on radiofrequency technology.

New Technique for Stretch Marks WOW Patients
Posted January 19, 2012 1:38 PM in Laser Skin Resurfacing
By Krystie Lennox, PA-C
All too often patients approach me with concerns about their stretch marks. No matter if they are on the abdomen, breasts, arms, thighs, hips, or buttocks those pesky little scars are a source of distress for their owners. Stretch marks can be caused by rapid growth, hormonal changes, muscle building, and weight gain. The question I hear over and over again is "Can you make these disappear?" The honest to God truth is "No". However, I can make those reddish, purple, and white lines appear much, much better.
I use a multi-laser approach. To start, I attempt to improve the reddish or purple discoloration by going over all areas with a Sciton 1064 nm laser. This laser is specifically designed to heat up the blood vessels, causing them to breakdown and shrink, therefore, reducing the unsightly appearance. Immediately following the Sciton 1064 nm laser, I use an ablative fractional resurfacing laser. Stretch marks are caused by the tearing of the dermis of the skin, the ablative fractional resurfacing laser helps to rebuild collagen and epithelium.
The majority of patients can expect to come in for approximately 6 visits 1 month apart. The treatment area will be red and slightly tender for a few days following each visit. We advise against direct sunlight on the treated area for 1 week before and 1 week after each session. Pictures will be taken prior to the initial treatment and 8 weeks after the final treatment. If you have pesky stretch marks that you would like to see improved, submit an appointment request or call our office.

What is the best skin resurfacing treatment for freckles and sun damage?
Posted October 10, 2011 12:31 PM in Laser Skin Resurfacing
Question:
I’ve been reading up online about laser skin resurfacing. I’m a little confused since I’ve read about CO2 lasers, fraxel lasers, dot lasers, etc. What would be the best skin resurfacing treatment for a 42-year-old woman with freckles and sun damage on the face, neck and décolleté?
Answer:
The best laser depends on the patient’s downtime. We usually will use a combination of full-field Erbium and Fractional or Erbium and CO2 lasers for this patient and with additional broadband light to the neck and décolleté. Patients really need to come for a consult to come up with the best combination of treatments.

Does laser skin resurfacing actually remove scars?
Posted October 05, 2011 3:15 PM in Laser Skin Resurfacing
Question:
Does laser skin resurfacing actually remove scars that were otherwise dubbed permanent and make them harder to see?
Answer:
Laser skin resurfacing doesn’t remove the scars but definitely improves the appearance. Patients need to come for evaluation to see what lasers are best for their particular skin type.
