Many women of "middle age" will go to their doctor this year with the same set of complaints. "I'm tired", "I don't have the energy I used to", "My mind and memory aren't what they used to be", "My sex drive has disappeared", and others. Most savvy physicians will suspect menopause and likely be correct. You may be surprised to learn that many men experience the same symptom complex. Are they too going through menopause? YES! Only it's called "Andropause"

Andropause is a set of signs and symptoms in the male that result from a gradual decline in our hormone levels as we age, just as menopause does in females. In addition to those noted above, decreasing strength and stamina, erectile dysfunction and other sexual issues, mood disorders, weight gain around the mid-section and inability to lose weight are other symptoms of hormonal decline or Andropause. It is not a coincidence that every sign or symptom I have listed can be seen in both Andropause and Menopause.

We have been treating the effects of Menopause for many years. Unfortunately the predominate treatments entailed the use of synthetic chemicals as opposed to bioidentical or "natural" hormones which represent a much safer and more effective alternative. Andropause is only recently becoming recognized by the medical mainstream as a true and viable entity and attempts to treat it have been somewhat limited in the past. Fortunately, help is available.

Andropause and its associated signs and symptoms are directly linked to declining levels of testosterone. All men suffer declining testosterone levels as they age in varying degrees. While the effects of these declining levels will vary from individual to individual, as levels get lower for each individual the general pattern of symptomatology noted above appears. In addition to these, testosterone deficiency has also been linked to and increased risk of heart disease and osteoporosis.

Just like menopause, andropause can easily be treated. Restore the hormone levels (testosterone) to pre- andropausal levels and symptoms will resolve. As a bonus bone building and cardiac health will be enhanced. Erectile dysfunctions can be improved or eliminated. With proper diet and exercise the conversion of body fat into lean muscle mass can be greatly enhanced.

The safest way to restore these hormone levels is with the use of "bioidentical" hormone. Bioidentical Hormone Replacement Therapy entails replacing testosterone that is identical to that which is already in the body as opposed to a chemically synthesized drug. It can be done by rubbing cream or gel into the skin daily, taking pills, or dissolving tablets under the tongue. The most effective method is with the implantation of hormone pellets under the skin which last from 4-6 months.
