Lips: liner and/or filler
Lip liner and filler is available in a permanent form. Because lips are composed of both skin and mucous membrane, unlike brows and eye liner, it takes a special technique and attention to detail to create a good result.
To show this, if you spread your lips out in front of the mirror, you can see the purples in the blood under the lip. Lips are mucous membrane, not skin. If you’re outlining, it’s important that the technician not go above the vermillion (the edge of the lip line where the skin becomes regular skin with hair follicles and is no longer mucous membrane). The color will never be the same on both of those types of surface (mucous membrane and skin). We are very careful with this—if someone asks to go above the vermillion in hopes of enlarging their lip, we will talk them out of it, because the colors won’t be the same. Because of the blood supply of the lips, you must be very careful with color. The purple underneath will come through the pigment as well. So, you need warmer colors with some lips than others, to avoid having purple lips.
